How accurate are the Wind Prospecting Tools?
3TIER has compared annual mean wind speeds provided by the Wind Prospecting Tools with publicly available wind speed observations from more than 4000 globally distributed meteorological stations from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Automated Data Processing (ADP) surface observation dataset. In comparison with actual NCEP-ADP direct observations, the annual mean wind speed values provided by 3TIER’s global wind dataset have a difference of less than 0.5 m/s for 50% of stations and a difference of less than 1 m/s for 78% of stations. The overall bias is +0.05 m/s relative to NCEP-ADP observations, and the RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error) is 0.93 m/s.
For more detailed information, please download 3TIER's global wind validation white paper.
If you require more accuracy than the Prospecting Tools currently offer, 3TIER’s FullView Wind Spatial Mapping can provide a more comprehensive analysis of the wind resource at your site. For even greater accuracy, 3TIER can incorporate your own observational data into our FullView Wind Site Climate Variability Analysis and FullView Wind Resource Project Assessment.
